I think about how people interact with information as they struggle to make sense of their world.
I teach information architecture and user experience design at Kent State University.
My research concerns the interactive processes involved in cognitively-complex, information-rich, and open-ended activities. Some phrases that describe my research include human-information interaction, information visualization, distributed cognition, and knowledge environments.
I was an information architect before I became a professor. For a while, I worked at the pioneering information architecture firm Argus Associates.
I'm a founding member of the Information Architecture Institute.
My wife is a much better information architect than I am.
I'm Canadian.
