About

I think about how people interact with information as they struggle to make sense of their world.

I teach information architecture and user experience design at Kent State University.

My research concerns the interactive processes involved in cognitively-complex, information-rich, and open-ended activities. Some phrases that describe my research include human-information interaction, information visualization, distributed cognition, and knowledge environments.

I was an information architect before I became a professor. For a while, I worked at the pioneering information architecture firm Argus Associates.

I'm a founding member of the Information Architecture Institute.

My wife is a much better information architect than I am.

I'm Canadian.
