IA Summit Slides Online

2004-MAR-04

The slides from my presentation on information visualization at the 2004 IA Summit are now available.

I had a packed house for the presentation; standing room only. The feedback was positive and people liked the talk. I have half a transcript and I'm working on making it complete so I can publish it for those who couldn't make it to Austin.

This was my third consecutive trip to the IA Summit. For me, at least, this was the best one yet. I saw some excellent presentations. But the more important element is the intelligent, enthusiastic, and friendly atmosphere of the conference. A terrific experience.

Information Architecture Summit 2004

2004-FEB-25

I am off to Austin, Texas for the 5th Annual IA Summit. This is my third summit and the second year I have given a talk.

My talk this year is called Information Visualization: Failed Experiment or Future Revolution?" Over the last three years I have been slowly moving from industry to academia, and from information architecture towards information visualization. My goal in the talk is to explain why information visualization hasn't made much of a splash in information architecture circles, let alone become a mainstream technology, but why it may have profound implications for the future of IA. However, the whole enterprise remains a research problem in my view and there is a great deal of work to be done.

A written transcript of the talk will be available here in a few days (I am still tinkering).
